The F Word - Part 2

It took me a while to find it, but I eventually did! Down at Shoppers Drug Mart, in the organic section, I found a couple of different brands that offered Folic Acid. And since I think one is just as good as the other, I picked the one with the lowest impact on my wallet. At $6.49 for 120 vitamins, I thought it was a bargain.

The recommended daily intake of Folic Acid is 400 mcg, but for some reason I could not find any bottles that offered exactly this amount per tablet. They all offered 1 mg, and stated that I should take one a day. That's two and a half times the recommended dose. There aren't any concrete findings that state the harm of taking too much, however there are some theories that while it helps healthy tissue grow, it may also contribute to the growth of cancerous tissue if taken in too high doses.

So, I figured I'd cut the tiny tablets in half and try that for a while. That's 500 mcg, however they say 400 with the thought in mind that you're also getting some from the food you eat. Well, my diet is very far from balanced, so I think on 500, I should be just fine.

As I'm reading on in my book, I'm learning that there are, however, a lot of lifestyle changes I need to start making. They include developing some kind of regular exercise routine, and eating right. Those are two things I'm glad I'm tackling so early in the game. Because it is definitely going to take me at least 5 months to develop a system for that!

Wish me luck!
