So yesterday evening Jim and Pam from my all-time-favourite TV series "The Office" finally had their gorgeous baby girl, as seen in their first moments as a family together above. I was just so excited to see it all.
As a woman who longs to be a mother, seeing other mothers in action just pulls at my heart strings. When I see a little newborn baby squirming around in a new daddy's arms, I can't help but make that small whimpering noise. That one that Matt recognizes all too well. And the baby fever comes again, as always.
I have a coworker named Theresa who had a beautiful baby girl last fall, named Isabella Marie, and I have had the privilege of seeing her intermittently over the last five months. What a gorgeous little girl, something in me just longs whenever I hold her. I fall in love all over again with that little pouty bottom lip, that feathery blond hair, or those enormous blue eyes. And she's a great mom, too, Theresa. She participates in many programs throughout the week to keep her and baby busy, and has lots of great tips for first time moms. I always have tons of questions to ask her when she's around, and she's always happy to share. Although, as that baby grows, its becoming more and more apparent how much a baby really does change your life.
Seeing a baby, touching that soft skin, smelling that neck and head, what magic. I can't even imagine how it would feel to do those things with my own baby. And every time I see one, I get home and Matt just knows. He knows where I've been, what I've been holding for the past three hours.
And he shakes his head, and smiles at me. I think the part of this all that he's most excited about is seeing me fulfilling a role that I was born to do.
I think he thinks about it more often than he lets on.
