The nursery is complete!
Resources:
Three Piece Set - Crib, dresser, changing table & changing pad
This set was purchased from Zellers for an incredible price! Original price $399.99, on sale for a week for $294.95. When we went to buy it, they told us it was customer appreciation day, and that if we had an HBC Rewards credit card, we'd get 10% off as well. So we signed up for one! And then, because it was our first purchase with the card, we got an ADDITIONAL 10% off! So final price of ALL THREE pieces? $235.00 +tx. Thank you very much.
Crib mattress
Purchased from Zellers, originally $89.99, got it for $59.99.
Window
This window is actually not a real window! The room we're using for a nursery doesn't actually have a window, and I didn't really like that idea, so I came up with the idea to create a faux window! And it consists of three parts.
Mirror - Purchased from Home Depot for $29.99. Painted the frame white.
Wood inner framing - Just bits of wood that we found and painted, and attached to the front of the mirror to create a window effect.
Curtains - Fabric purchased from Fabric Land for $6.99. Matthew sewed them into custom curtains, and we tied them back with some old white ribbon I found in my craft supplies.
POOH BEAR
These letters were purchased from Wal Mart for $1.49 a piece, and we painted them in the appropriate orange.
White shelves
These shelves were purchased from Michael's Craft Store. Original price $15.99 each. With the use of 40% off coupons we got them for only $10 a piece! We trimmed the sides to fit the space, and painted them white.
Crib bedding set - Bumper, dust ruffle, fitted sheet, quilt
Now this purchase was pretty much the ONLY one we splurged on, because it was just extremely important to me to have a beautiful bedding set. I've always dreamed of the little dust ruffle along the bottom, and the super soft quilt that comes along... So we picked this set up from Sears for $169.99. Definitely on the high end of the price scale, but it's just SO pretty!
Assorted stuffed animals
The Pooh's in the crib I actually had from before the baby, so I was so happy to be able to use them. Along with the Winnie-the-Pooh pillow on the changing table. The Eeyore in the crib was received as a gift from a former co-worker at a baby shower. The three "Baby Pooh" characters on the dresser were purchased on sale from London Drugs for $9.99 each, original price $19.99 each.
"Hunny" Lamp
This lamp was purchased from Wal Mart for $9.99, but was just a plain white lamp. We picked it out because it had the right shape. Then we took it home and Matt spray painted it white to give it a different texture so that acrylic paint would stick to it. Then I hand painted the designs on to make it look like a Winnie-the-Pooh Hunny Pot!
Wall canvases
These canvases were purchased from Wal Mart for $2.49 each. I painted them in the corresponding colours, and with the corresponding shapes. If you didn't figure it out yourself, it's actually "A B C." Acorn, Bee, Carrot! We just figured that since there were already so many letters in the room, we'd just do Winnie-the-Pooh-esque pictures instead!
Diaper pail
Purchased from Superstore on sale for $29.99, original price $34.99. And we got it on "No Tax" day!
White beaded wainscoting
That's the white board on the lower half of the walls. This wall treatment we purchased already painted white from The Home Depot for $32.00 a piece, and we needed 4 to complete the room for a total of $128.00.
Paint - Green on walls, white on baseboards, assorted acrylic paints for craft projects
All of this we already had on hand (even the green on the walls, as it's the same colour we used in our bedroom), so this aspect of the room was free!
For a grand total of...
Only $816.00, give or take a few cents!
It was a lot of work, but it was all worth it! I have complete and total peace of mind now, because I know my baby has somewhere comfortable to sleep. There's also a closet in the room, filled to bursting with baby clothes and accessories. Blankets, hats, towels, washcloths... I just feel so calm and relaxed now, knowing all that's left for me to do is sit back and relax, and wait for this baby to make its grand entrance!
And I think all of the small details really add a personal touch to the space. I feel like I had my hand in everything that happened in there, and that I painted love into every inch. I'm sure the baby will be able to feel the overwhelming love just oozing out of the walls in that room. I know I do. :D
