As it turns out, the baby is real.
I've been experiencing a lot of, I guess, a sense of unreality about this whole pregnancy thing. Morning sickness, and countless other symptoms aside, even a positive test and a doctor's congratulations, it's just hard to believe that there's a living thing inside of me. And it's just too good to be true.
So we saw Dr. Macek again today, and got to hear the baby's heartbeat for the very first time.
What a moment.
One of those moments you always think will make you bubble over with tears and excitement. Not quite the emotion I experienced, however. I'd compare it to something a little more... Alien?
Suddenly the thought that there was another living being, an actual living thing with a heartbeat inside of me became so real so quickly. It was just so bizarre, and surreal. When that little thump-thump started, the first thing I did was look up at Matt.
What a beautiful boy.
A smile instantly spread from ear to ear, and I could see it was a little bit more real for him too. It won't be fully real until there's an organism squirming in his arms, but this was one step closer. That was the sight that almost brought me to tears, that silly boy with that silly grin. Such a sweet soul.
After the appointment, we were driving back and Matt imitated the sound with his mouth in the car. My excitement was instantly renewed. 160 beats per minute of pure heaven.
